Q.    I think I may have made some mistakes and want to start all over again. Can I?

To start over is fairly easy. The first step is to Remove the DCMS from your Computer. Then Download and Install the Re-installation Update on your computer, which sets it up as a demo. Finally, Re-Register your copy of the program to turn the demo into your own program.

Removing the DCMS from Your Computer

The DCMS is quite easy to remove. An "Uninstall" feature or file is not needed. Because the current version was written with Windows 95 compilers, it doesn't need to be registered with Windows in the standard sense. To Uninstall the DCMS, simply open My Computer, and log on the drive you installed the DCMS to (most likely, it will be drive C:). Then, select (click once) on the folder holding the DCMS, which will be DCMSWIN, unless you changed it when installing. With the folder selected, press the Delete (Del) key on your keyboard. You will be asked to confirm you want to send the folder to the Recycle Bin. Answer Yes.

There is one other folder associated with the DCMS, and that is DCMSINST. It should be in your C: drive in the root directory. The DCMS uses that folder to look for updates and automatically install them. That folder should be empty and it can be deleted as well, unless you are uninstalling the DCMS prior to re-installing it. In that case, leave the DCMSINST folder there. You'll need it later.

Downloading and Installing the Re-Installation Update

The quickest way to reinstall the DCMS Windows Version (either to a  new computer or to a computer which had crashed) is to visit this web site and choose the "Support" link from the home page. Then select the "Program Updates" link. On the Program Updates page, you will a list of available updates fro the program. The third one is the "Re-Installation Update". Click on that link. You will be asked for your name and email address. Provide them and click "Let Me In"

You will then get a page of instructions. Print that page for use later. This will help you during and after the download. On the page is also a link to start the download. The file you are downloading is called DCMSDEMO.EXE and is in fact the same file that installs the Demo program. The Demo program is a full, working  version of the program. Follow the instructions on the printed page to download and install the DCMS.

If you have a previous backup

The most important part of the instructions to re-install the DCMS is that you must place your latest backup in drive A:  BEFORE you start the demo program for the first time. When the program starts, it "rattles" drive A: looking for, among other things, a backup disk.

When it finds the backup, it may announce its presence and ask if you want to restore the data, which of course, you do. If you have followed the directions correctly, it should simply extract the data from the backup when it finds it.

Re-Registering Your Copy of the DCMS

The final step of the process is turning the demo back into your program. If you still have the Branding Disk, you can use that, as you did when you initially set the program up. If you still have the registration codes that I sent you when you purchased the program, or last purchased an update subscription, you can enter the codes using the procedure in the message..

Failing that, just send me a quick email at stan@mydcms.com  and ask me to send you the registration codes. I will be happy to send them to you. In the meantime, you can easily start entering data in the demo mode until you get the message from me.

Hope that helps.
