Newfoundlanders are known nationwide as friendly, caring and good-natured people. And new Independent National Sales Director Philomena Warren is no exception. Funny and down-to-earth, she's the warm heart and keen listener – "the rock" – at the centre of her National Area. True to her humble nature, Phil speaks modestly about her journey to the ultimate Mary Kay success.

"Of course becoming an Independent National Sales Director was a 'private dream' – something I hoped would happen 'some day', except I didn't have a step-by-step plan to achieve it," says Phil of her journey to success. "However, I've always planned my next step and I always have a goal to work toward, no matter how small."

Of all her accomplishments, Phil is most honoured to have received Mary Kay's favourite award – the annual Go-Give™ Award – on stage at Seminar 2003. In fact, receiving the prestigious award from Ryan Rogers, Mary Kay Ash's grandson, is one of Phil's most cherished memories.

So when it came time to turn her 'private dream' into a reality, it's no surprise that Phil drew on the same qualities that made her such a deserving Go-Give Award recipient – a giving and caring spirit coupled with natural leadership ability – to guide her through the Independent National Sales Director-in-Qualification (N.I.Q.) period.

"I really just try to a be a servant leader to the best of my ability – and I think that helped all of us through the N.I.Q. period," says Phil. "If one of my unit members was facing a challenge, I just tried to listen and let them voice their anxieties – so we could re-focus and grow together."

Following Mary Kay's traditions ("just do your classes, sell the product and offer the opportunity") has helped Phil keep it simple and stay the course through her Mary Kay career and she's excited to pass on those traditions – mixed with her own calm, uncomplicated philosophies – to her hard-working National Area.

"I really feel like this is my time to give back – and now I'm free to do it without deadlines!" laughs Phil. "I'm so privileged to be the first Independent National Sales Director from Newfoundland and I can't wait to see what we will do!"

Phil is one of my offspring Nationals and I am so proud of what she has done from her remote base in Pasadena, on the west coast of Newfoundland. Phil is always full of fun and optimism. She has a heart as big as the outdoors and she truly cares for her people. If you want to see how to have fun and be successful in Mary Kay at the same time, spend a few days with Phil. This celebration would not be complete without her.
