"Everything about the Mary Kay opportunity was so successful,
and I wanted it all."

*******

Ready, set, go. Independent Elite Executive National Sales Director Emeritus Anne Newbury believes that you have to start the race to win. After being impressed by a top Independent Beauty Consultant, Anne decided that the Mary Kay opportunity was for her – before even trying the Mary Kay® products. “Everything about the Mary Kay opportunity was so successful, and I wanted it all,” Anne recalls.

Earlier on, Anne thought about quitting the race. When her husband’s salary doubled, she said, “Good, that means I don’t have to work anymore.” So, what kept her excited about her Mary Kay business? “I realized that if we were ever going to save money for our children to go to college, it was up to me,” she says.

The race she began has quite literally taken her all over the world, from her beginnings in Boston, to her help in the development of Mary Kay subsidiaries in Canada, Mexico and Brazil. What’s more the commissions she earned paid for much more than college educations she first planned for, they’ve also allowed her to give story-book weddings to her children in the U.S., and even Ireland!

“My commissions have grown from $5,000 in 1971 to more than $11 million upon debuting as NSD Emeritus in 2007,” Anne says. “How many women do you know who have built that kind of total security working for somebody else?”

The key, Anne says, is just getting started. “I suggest strongly that today is your day to start the race.” With her track record to follow, anything is possible!

What can I say about Anne? I remember my first Mary Kay training session. I was sitting in a room with a hundred other new Consultants (including Debbie Mattinson) and Anne walked in. Actually, she floated in, or so it seemed. I was so impressed that I wanted everything she represented. I worked hard to be a reflection of what I learned from Anne, and then later Mary Kay herself.

To know Anne is to know the heart of Mary Kay. When Anne retired, she was the #1 National in the world, with an income that year of over 1 miliion dollars in commissions. She pioneered for Mary Kay in the northeast United States and then helped open Canada in the early days. Anne is one of the main reasons that there was such great success in the Maritimes.

Anne was, and remains to be an amazing mentor and role model. I am overjoyed that she is here with us.
