"I just want to share this incredible opportunity with other women."

*******

There is a postmaster in a small town just outside Ottawa, ON who takes credit for Independent National Sales Director Anne Austin's first pink Cadillac. And Anne is more than happy to let him take the credit.

But the recognition must go to Anne for seeing potential. Her incredible Mary Kay journey happened because Anne knows how to look – and reach out for – an opportunity. It was 25 years ago and Anne, newly married, had just quit her job in Montréal, QC, to move to Cantley, QC, – where she didn't know a soul. A close girl friend and former co-worker sent Anne a gift of Mary Kay® product, and an invitation to an event that would forever change her life.

Anne was intrigued, but didn't know a soul in Cantley so she went to the postmaster and asked him for the names of the five friendliest women in town. Three of them held classes for her – and so began her Mary Kay journey.

That invitation has lead Anne to many riches and rewards (35 diamond rings!) – including debuting as an Independent National Sales Director. Anne continues to work with her Independent Sales Directors and on nurturing new Independent Sales Directors.

Anne says, "My Mary Kay business has given my husband, Roly, and me a fabulous lifestyle and financial independence. I just want to share this incredible opportunity with other women."

I met Anne when I first came to Ottawa in 1986, before I made the decision to re-start my career. We have been good friends ever since, even though, these days, it seems that Stan and I have to go to another continent to see her and Roly.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Anne for having welcomed me to the Nation's Capital and helping me get established. The rest, as they say, is history. It goes without saying that if Anne had not encouraged and befriended me back then, there might not be a National Area to celebrate today.
